Healing, Growth, and Commitment

What Is Healing?

Healing is not a quick fix or a magical moment—it’s a process. It’s about collaborationgrowth, and connection. Healing looks different for everyone, but at its core, it means being able to feel more alive, more connected, and more grounded in your world—through relationships, community, and resources.

It’s about not being constantly derailed by life’s challenges. It’s about maintaining your integrity, pursuing your goals, and nurturing relationships that support your well-being. Healing also means facing reality with courage and taking meaningful action where you can. We believe that healing is not just about reducing suffering, but about the potential for thriving.

Counseling is a partnership. You and your counselor work together to explore and address the concerns that matter to you—whether they involve anxiety, depression, identity, academic stress, belonging, or the impact of family and societal systems.

This collaborative relationship is grounded in respectempathy, and shared purpose—core values of Counseling Psychology.

Growth Through Change

Counseling is a space for transformation. The goal is to support your well-being, which may look different for each person. Together, we’ll help you recognize and build on your strengths, while also navigating experiences, thoughts, and emotions that may be difficult or painful. These moments are often essential steps in the journey of growth.

Commitment to the Process

Healing takes commitment. Choosing to begin counseling is a powerful act of self-care and self-respect. When you engage with the Healing, Training, and Research Clinic, you’re making a commitment to yourself—and your counselor is making a commitment to you.

Your counselor will:

  • Strive to understand your unique experiences
  • Collaborate with you to address your concerns and hopes
  • Offer honest, compassionate feedback
  • Welcome your feedback with openness and care
  • Routinely monitor your progress
